Classes have started!

We’re starting the second week of the first session of classes, and I’ve enjoyed getting to know so many new students and am looking forward to sharing more about weather.  We’re starting class each week with a discussion about the daily weather forecast, which should be quite interesting for our Thursday class this week!

As we continue to learn about tools to track weather, don’t forget to write about the changing weather in your journals!  Speaking of changing weather, it won’t be long before severe weather season arrives.  I’m planning on having a class on tornadoes soon…so look for information on that coming up!

March – April Weather Classes

Hi everyone!

I’m looking forward to starting a new adventure…teaching about one of my favorite subjects, the weather! As I’ve been putting together the class, I’m planning on having some time each week to talk about the current weather and relate some of the topics covered in class to the actual weather. That shouldn’t be too hard in March! I’m also looking at having a fun forecasting activity each week, which also could be interesting this time of the year.

My goal is to have a fun, engaging class that will hopefully lead to some good thinking about an area of science that really crosses a broad spectrum of interests. Meteorology is a crossroads of so many subject areas, so I encourage questions all of kinds…even if it’s not specific to our topic of the week.

Speaking of topics, the first session will be an intro to how weather works. I have some fun facts and visuals to get the students thinking about the drivers behind the weather we see and feel everyday. This will also lay the foundation for the next few weeks. I’ll talk about the ways we track weather an introduce you some tools I use everyday in my job of forecasting the weather. By the way, forecasting is the main topic for week 4, and no, we don’t use a dart board. 🙂

If you have any questions about these classes, don’t hesitate to email

Some notes: Please think of the age groups as a guide. You know your child best, so if you have a sibling in a different group but a child close to the age cut off for that group, feel free to register for whichever class works best for your family. Parents are welcome to attend with their children if they would like to.
The pricing will be $40 for the four week session for ages 7-10 and 10+, and $20 per session for the 4-6 year olds. If you are registering more than one child in your family, the first child would be $40 and additional children $30 each. You can pay by check at the first class, or we will be setting up Paypal, so if you prefer you could pay online once that is completed.
There will be a cap on classes around 10 students, but the number may vary a little depending on sibling groups. If a class has fewer than 5 children signed up, that class may not be held.
