The next session of weather classes begins April 18th!

Our next weather class session will begin the week of April 18th:  Thunderstorms!  We are exploring the beginning of this subject this week in my current classes, but in the next session we’ll dive deeper and discover how they work.

We have about 40 to 50 thunderstorm days a year in the Sioux Falls area, but what ingredients does it take to make a storm?  We’ll take a closer look at what makes these storms tick and discuss some of our own observations of thunderstorms over the 4 week session with the students.

I’ll also talk about the latest lightning science, plus we’ll uncover what caused some of the biggest hail stones ever recorded (a top record holder was found here in South Dakota!).  Storms like this can be scary, but we’ll learn how to recognize some of the dangers of thunderstorms and stay safe!  I’m planning to do a series on tornadoes after that, starting mid-May.…so check back for updates on that!

Classes will be $30 per student, any additional students from the same family will be $25 per child. This will cover one class per week (multiple class day/time options are available), for the four week session.

Parents are welcome to attend with their children!
